Design Information:
Drawings can be provided to us electronically. We support the latest versions of the following CAD file formats:
•AutoCAD (.dwg) files or (.dxf) files
•Solidworks (.prt/.sldprt), (.igs/.iges), (.stp/.step), (.asm/.sldasm)
If you are providing us with electronic files, it is critical that parts are drawn to scale.. Formatic can develop flat layouts and tooling requirements from your CAD drawings. Our CNC punch and laser software allows us to directly import and tool your CAD drawings, remember the quality of the finished part out is directly related to the quality of the information in.
If you would like to submit drawings to us electronically:
•Have the object to be produced all in one layer.
•No polylines, splines or curves as exploded arcs or circles.
•As few layers as possible, and layers clearly named (i.e. DIM,CENTRE,OBJECT,HIDDEN)
Parts must be drawn to scale,. Please no XREFS or blocks that depend on other drawings. Please specify your dimensioning with Imperial or metric notations.
Many CAD systems now offer fold/unfold capability for sheet metal development. If you are making use of this feature, please also include a clearly dimensioned third view developed part drawing with critical dimensions indicated.
If CAD files are not available, PDF documents or other raster image formats are acceptable, however raster files are not useful for direct import in to our CNC software.
Welding:
We are a fully certified CWB welding facility. We operate a fully equipped welding department with a team of qualified, certified CWB welders and CWB welding supervisors capable of welding most common materials.
We also operate a 150 KVA, 200 amp. spot (resistance) welder ideally suited to joining lighter gauge parts. We also use the spot welder for weld nut insertion. We stock a wide variety of weld fasteners. Whether your parts require MIG, TIG or spot resistance welding, Formatic 2000 can produce the parts you require.
Hardware Insertion:
We have a 6 ton PEMSerter pneumatic press. We stock a wide variety of PEM press-in fasteners, and we can obtain commonly stocked fasteners within a day or two.
De-burring/Graining:
We have a 24" wide Grind Master sander/polisher to perform automatic de-burring and graining of punched or laser cut parts. As well as a 96” Stroke Sander for those non flat and architectural pieces.
Parts Inspection/Quality Assurance:
Throughout the fabrication process, our staff continuously monitors and inspects parts to ensure that you get what you require. We operate a Virtek LaserQC flat parts scanner that can analyze and inspect a flat punched or lasered part within a tolerance of +/-0.003". Height gauges and digital measurement tools used by our inspection department ensures that your parts are correct to your requirements.
Machining:
Does your assembly contain machined parts? Formatic can help. We have partnered with several machine shops who work with us to produce CNC machined parts.
Other Cutting Processes:
Do you require material thicker than 0.250" cut as part of your assembly? Formatic 2000 has also partnered with a number of companies that offer plasma/laser/water jet cutting of thicker or unusual materials. Call us today with your requirements.
Finishing's and Coatings:
We have developed relationships with local companies who provide a variety of finishing processes. If you require a specific finish for your parts, let us know your requirements.
Among the finishes we can arrange are:
•Spray Painting (for most common metals)
•Electrostatic Powder Coat (indoor and outdoor finishes for most metals)
•Black Oxide (steel)
•Anodizing (aluminum)
•Alodine (aluminum)
